PB Design has long been serving the rail and metro infrastructure within the UK with robust DC switch trippers for over 3 decades. Our PADS approved designs meet the needs of Network Rail. We also have extensive knowledge of London Underground installation, supporting the Jubilee line over 20 years ago for example.

Our thyristor based technology is a proven design with a product life often in excess of 20 years. We offer a range of application uses:

Battery tripping unit – power assurance for safe operation, always there when required
Telecoms – communication assurance for constant communication to the substation assets
SCADA – status and control assurance for safe operation

Batteries do not last forever and we have experience in replacing batteries onsite, project managing the work to ensure minimal downtime and disruption.

Applications for Rail & Transport

Rail

The DC battery tripping unit is a vital component in rail applications, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the electrical system. Our DC tripping units are PADS approved.

Metro

The DC system is the backbone of a high-voltage industrial/utility substation. Our industrial chargers maintain the health of the DC system by providing a steady charge to batteries, which serve as backup power sources. Given the critical nature of the system, redundancy can be provided with a dual charger configuration.

Road Infrastructure

Ensuring the safety of drivers, our DC switch tripper units and intertrippers provide the essential DC power allowing the substation to continue to operate even during power outages.

Airports

DC systems are the backbone of a substation, ensuring that essential electrical systems within the substation continue to operate even during power outages. PB Design have been providing UK airports with essential DC power.
