Emergency Lighting Backup for the Garden of Eden
PB Design has supplied the backup power supply for the emergency lighting at The Eden Project - a global garden created in a 15 Hectare disused Cornish clay pit which opened to the public in March 2001. This remarkable project features the world’s largest interlocking geodesic domes (two covered and one roofless biome) containing thousands of plants, which all have a relationship with man, grouped together into countries that share similar climates.
When building service engineers, MJN Colston were looking for backup for the emergency lighting systems in the HUMID TROPICS and WARM TEMPERATURE BIOMES they chose equipment from Clevedon based PB Design.
The HUMID TROPICS BIOME, a vast conservatory tall enough to house the Tower of London spanning 100m at its widest point, will contain a huge canopy of plants from Amazonia, West Africa, Malaysia and Oceania, as well as a cultivated area to show the commercial relationship with plants. Its emergency lighting system is backed by an 80 kVA Static Inverter with battery back up.
The WARM TEMPERATURE BIOME which houses a cultivated zone, olive groves, grapevines and hundreds of colourful plants from three different parts of the world that share the same climate (Southern Africa, the Mediterranean and California) has PB’s 40kVA static inverter system complete with battery backup.
PB's considerable experience with worldwide emergency lighting and power protection projects enabled them to easily overcome space restrictions in the battery rooms and they were available on site with advice whenever required.
