A Great Day for Cycling and all in a Good Cause

18 Jul 2016

The challenge was on, to take part in the Great Weston Ride, riding from Bristol to Weston-Super-Mare over the Mendips. A variety of courses were available, from 56 miles, taking in Burrington Combe through to 75 miles taking in three climbs including Burrington Coombe and Cheddar Gorge. Seven members of PB Design took part in the challenge, with 2 taking on the 75 mile challenge and 5 taking on the 56 mile challenge.

It was a warm, if not overcast and misty start to the morning, a perfect day for cycling. Not too hot and not too cold. At 8.30 am the ride was on, the 75 milers were off to a hill climb less than 1 mile from the start and caught up with the group near Compton Martin. Taking in a few rolling hills to Blagdon it was then on to Burrington Combe; a 2-mile ascent to the top of the Mendips. Over the Mendips the route split, with the 75 milers now taking on Cheddar Gorge. From the top of the gorge the 56 milers were again caught up. The hard part was now over, it was downhill and into the head wind across the levels for the last 30 miles.

Within a couple of hours of each other, we were over the finish line on Weston sea front where a cold beer and burger were there to greet us. In total, 430 miles was ridden between us.

A special mention must go to Rad, who completed 56 miles on a full suspension mountain bike, and Ed, who's longest previous ride was only 20 miles!

In total £690 was raised for Prostate Cancer UK. “This was a great effort all round from a mixed ability team. As a company we are more than happy to match the total raised bringing the grand total to £1390.00. We look forward to the next challenge.” stated Managing Director Mark Crocker. “As an employee owned business, we are committed to team events to raise money for worthwhile national and local charities”.
